5.175MW/10.03MWh User-Side Battery Storage Project Goes Live at Towngas LNG Facility — Weiyuan, Neijiang

Zhongxin General's first user-side energy storage project — a 5.175MW/10.03MWh containerized BESS built for a Towngas LNG facility in Weiyuan — is now online and generating stable returns.

Following the signing of several new energy storage contracts at Chengdu’s 2025 Provincial Grid-Side Energy Storage Launch Conference in late July, Zhongxin General has delivered another milestone: its first user-side battery energy storage project, rated 5.175MW/10.03MWh, officially connected to the grid on August 6, 2025, in Weiyuan County, Neijiang City, Sichuan.

The project was built for Sichuan Ganghua Hezong Energy Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Towngas Group engaged in LNG storage, emergency vaporization, and diversified gas-related business. The storage system was designed and constructed by Zhongxin General’s subsidiary, Sichuan Shuzhi Ruian Energy Development Co., Ltd., and is installed alongside the client’s LNG peak-shaving reserve base.

System Configuration

The battery energy storage system (BESS) is built from three integrated units:

  • One 5500kVA integrated step-up transformer cabin
  • Two PCS inverters
  • Two 5.015MWh liquid-cooled battery containers (10.03MWh combined)

Each battery container integrates its PCS converter, EMS energy management platform, thermal management, fire protection, battery clusters, and high-voltage junction box into a single deployable module — a compact, factory-tested approach that shortens on-site installation time considerably.

The DC side uses a solution from Boruian New Energy, while the AC (grid-connection) side equipment — including the HV/MV/LV switchgear — was manufactured by Zhongxin General. Installation services were carried out by our smart-integration arm, Zhihui Zhongxin, ensuring the full system was tuned to match the utility grid’s characteristics for stable, high-quality power supply.

Safety and Intelligent Control

The system is built around a distributed containerized liquid-cooling architecture with zone-based fire protection, and layers several safety and automation systems on top:

  • Active safety monitoring and high-efficiency fire suppression
  • Real-time monitoring and early warning for combustible gas and abnormal temperature conditions
  • An intelligent remote monitoring platform enabling unattended, remote operation
  • A self-diagnostic repair system supporting efficient, modular lifecycle maintenance
  • Virtual power plant (VPP) integration that adjusts charge/discharge strategy in real time to balance grid stability with economic return — the same VPP capability Zhongxin General showcased at the 2026 China Smart Energy Conference

Ahead of grid connection, Zhongxin General’s technical team held on-site planning meetings and worked directly with the client’s engineers through final acceptance. The client’s team paid particular attention to the high-voltage switchgear cabinets supplied for the project.

An EMC Model With Zero Upfront Cost for the Client

The project was delivered under a Contract Energy Management (EMC) model: Zhongxin General, Shuzhi Ruian, and Zhihui Zhongxin cover all equipment procurement, installation, and ongoing operation and maintenance costs, while the client makes no upfront investment. The two sides have also signed a 15-year storage service agreement, reflecting the client’s confidence in Zhongxin General’s technical capability, product reliability, and long-term service commitment.

  • Estimated annual discharge of approximately 5.5 million kWh
  • Roughly RMB 1 million per year in stable revenue share for the client
  • A meaningful improvement in power supply quality and stability at the LNG facility
